These were some of the places that stick in the memory as nice places to stay:

The Brown Kiwi at Ponsonby in Auckland www.brownkiwi.co.nz
The Villa at Picton (hot tub in the garden!) www.thevilla.co.nz
Funky Green Voyager in Rotorua
Dolphin Lodge in Kaikoura - sea views.
